Lagoon Water Quality
January 2026
In January, a small group of Community Association members met with Council Managers for a briefing on the situation. It proved an informative and productive session. A few key points arising were:
• Council has entered into a new State EPA operating licence containing detailed improvement actions, with effect from now. This provides stronger regulatory control of Council.
• The two trunk sewer mains passing under the Lagoon will be inspected in the first half of 2026 to assess their conditionand works required.
• Sewer access pits (which can be prone to tree root invasion) within 50m of the Lagoon (there are about 300 of them) will be inspected and remediated as required
• In 2027 a detailed scientific monitoring program will be undertaken to identify which locations in the Lagoon are still problematic to help identify the specific causes.
The Community Association will continue to engage with Council on this issue.
