Get Your Gloves On: Clean Up Australia Day in Avoca Beach

Australia's biggest community environmental event is coming to Avoca Beach on Sunday 1 March, and we need YOU!

Clean Up Australia Day returns on Sunday, 1 March 2026, and the Avoca Beach Community Association, in collaboration with Plastic Free Avoca Beach, is calling on local residents, families, and community groups to join us in caring for our beautiful town.

Since its inception in 1990, over 23 million volunteers have participated in Clean Up Australia events across the country. Last year alone, more than 1 million people volunteered across 12,000 events nationally, making it Australia's largest day of environmental action. Now it's Avoca’s turn to be part of this incredible movement.

Why it matters

Small pieces of litter may not seem important, but they add up and become big pollution problems when they pass into soil and waterways and often into the food chain. Small litter pieces are also often eaten by birds, fish and other wildlife which can severely impact the animal.

Avoca Beach deserve better. Keeping the town clean and tidy isn't just about removing litter – it's about preserving the natural beauty that makes our town such a special place to live and visit.

Get involved

Whether you can spare an hour or the whole morning, every pair of hands counts. Bring your family, friends, or come solo – you'll be joining your neighbours who want to keep Avoca looking at its best.. We'll provide the gloves and bags so you just need to bring a hat, sunscreen and water.
