The Friendly Face Behind Avoca Beach Pharmacy: Meet Ahmad Kharroubi

Everyone needs a pharmacy at some point, whether to fill a prescription, get a vaccination, or simply pick up some essentials. We’re fortunate to have Avoca Beach Pharmacy right in the heart of our village, owned and operated by pharmacist Ahmad Kharroubi. Many of us recognize Ahmad’s friendly face behind the counter, but how much do we really know about the person running our local pharmacy? We sat down with him to learn more about his journey, his passions, and what he loves most about being part of the Avoca Beach community.

How long have you lived in Avoca, and where were you before?

I’ve been living in Avoca Beach since September 2023, which is also when I took over the pharmacy. Before moving here, I lived in Orchard Hills, Sydney.

Tell us a bit about your family.

I moved to Australia from Lebanon to pursue my career as a pharmacist and build a future here. While my immediate family is still overseas, the Avoca community has been incredibly welcoming and truly made me feel at home.

What inspired you to become a pharmacist?

I became a pharmacist in 2012 and have been practicing ever since. I’ve always been passionate about healthcare and helping people manage their wellbeing. Being a pharmacist allows me to make a meaningful impact every day, whether through professional advice, helping patients understand their medications, or simply being someone they can trust and rely on.

What do you enjoy most about working at Avoca Beach Pharmacy?

Without question, it’s the community. The people here are warm, kind, and genuinely appreciative. I love supporting patients not just with their prescriptions but also by offering guidance and care. The pharmacy is more than just a place to collect medicine,  it’s a trusted part of the community, and I’m proud to be part of that connection.

How do you like to spend your weekends when you’re not working?

When I’m not at the pharmacy, I enjoy spending time outdoors and making the most of what the Central Coast has to offer. Weekends are often spent with family, relaxing, catching up, and enjoying quality time together. I also love playing soccer, swimming, 4WD driving, and discovering new places.

What’s a hobby or interest people might not know about you?

Aside from my work, I’m passionate about fitness, sports, and the outdoors. Soccer and swimming have been a big part of my life for years, and I love exploring through 4WD adventures. I’m also deeply interested in personal growth and entrepreneurship, values that influence the way I run the pharmacy and engage with the community.

What do you love most about Avoca? The community spirit, without a doubt. People here genuinely care about each other, and there’s a wonderful sense of connection and belonging.

If you could change one small thing about the area, what would it be?

Avoca is a truly special place, and there’s very little I’d change. If I had to choose one thing, it would be improving parking near the main shops and beach area. It would make things a little easier for both locals and visitors.

What’s your proudest achievement or is it still to come?

One of my proudest achievements is moving away from my home country to build a life and career in Australia, and eventually becoming both a pharmacist and a business owner. It’s been a journey full of challenges, growth, and opportunities to help others, and I believe the best is yet to come.
